A GOOD NAME

Christians are called to be people of integrity; upright and honest in a world that is going in the opposite direction. It is vitally important that we 'live' rightly and not merely 'talk' about it. A lighthouse doesn't briefly ring bells or fire cannons in order to show a wayward ship where safe passage is ... it continually shines.

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16

A 'reputation' is formed by what people observe in our behavior. We are constantly being evaluated and judged, so it is essential that we, as believers, do not bring shame upon the Son of God. Nonbelievers look to discredit our faith ... any hypocrisy they see bolsters their argument against the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold. Proverbs 22:1

Having a 'good name' (honorable reputation) comes from ...

1. Obeying God’s Word: Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth. (2 Timothy 2:15)

2. Living to please the Lord: We make it our aim to please Him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ. (2 Corinthians 5:9-10)

3. Striving to keep a clear conscience: Seeking to conduct ourselves honorably [that is, with moral courage and personal integrity] in all things. (Hebrews 13:18)

When you share the message of the cross, its impact will be affected by what the hearer knows about you. If you have a poor reputation, your words will likely fall on deaf ears.

A 'good name' is priceless as the world witnesses your walk of faith ...
