To those of us who are pensive by nature, this may be the most poignant phrase used in Scripture. It expresses in no uncertain terms the 'just' penalty for sin, the brutality of the Lord's crucifixion, and the high price that was paid for our redemption ...
Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness. Hebrews 9:22
At the last supper, Jesus offered wine to His disciples ... "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you” (Luke 22:20). It symbolized that which had the power to atone for every past, present, and future sin committed by mankind.
When the Son of God was about to draw His last breath on Calvary's cross, from trembling lips came the words ... 'It is finished'. The Lord had completed His mission and a believer's sin debt was forever expunged.
For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. 1 Peter 1:18,19
Not only does the blood of Christ redeem you from the penalty of sin ... it sets you free from having to rely on your flesh to walk uprightly before a Holy God.
How much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? Hebrews 9:14
You are hidden in Him ...
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless, I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20
The atoning blood of the sinless Lamb of God was an offering that not only allows for your one-time 'justification' but is sufficient for your ongoing 'sanctification'.
But now in Christ Jesus, you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ. Ephesians 2:13
In this world, you are apt to slide and prone to wander ... but the fountain never ceases to flow. It contains the sin-forgiving, guilt-removing, heart-cleansing, blood of your Savior.
