THE BLOOD

The Word of God not only presents a disturbing picture of the blood that streamed down Calvary's cross two thousand years ago ... but more importantly, the divine purpose for which it was shed.

In Christ we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace; Ephesians 1:7

On the night before He was crucified, Jesus offered to His disciples wine that symbolized the atoning sacrifice that was to be made on their behalf ... 'This cup is the New Covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you'. (Luke 22:20)

The Old Covenant required the sacrifice of animals to cover the sins of the people, but the blood of bulls and goats only provided a temporary reprieve. It could never cleanse iniquity's stain from the soul of man.

Because God is holy, a perfect sacrifice had to be offered. Jesus Christ became for us the Sinless Lamb of God ...

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16

As blood streamed down our Savior's tortured body ... through trembling lips He declared, 'It is finished'. The work of redemption was completed forever.

Spurgeon - Through Jesus' blood there is not a spot left upon any believer, no wrinkle nor any such thing remains. The precious blood, which makes us clean, removes the stains of abundant iniquity and permits us to stand accepted in the Beloved.

Because of The Blood, your sins can be forgiven. In God's sight, you are cloaked in the righteousness of His Son when you accept the gift of salvation.
