COMPLACENCY

It is a feeling of being satisfied with things as they are ... with no desire to improve them. Complacency disregards the dangers and/or deficiencies associated with maintaining the 'status quo'.

It is a very dangerous mindset if you are a Christian. There should be continual growth and transformation ...

Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen. 2 Peter 3:18

Don't confuse 'contentment' with 'complacency'Contentment is an imparted peace that guards your heart and mind; completely satisfied with the sufficiency of Jesus Christ in all things. Conversely, complacency means that you are fully 'self-satisfied' with your religious experience ... regardless of its stagnancy.

The truth is ... you are never standing still as a believer. You're either moving forward in your faith or 'backsliding'. In other words, if you are a Christian who stifles spiritual growth, you are in danger of falling prey to the ways of the world.

There is a progression that should take place in the follower of Christ ... Make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. If you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. (2 Peter 1:5-8)

The evidence of complacency ...
1. Your Bible is covered in dust. Studying and applying the Word of God no longer seems important.
2. Your prayer life is sporadic and lacks intimacy ... it is merely a superficial offering from a self-centered mind instead of a surrendered heart.
3. Past victories in your walk of faith are deemed 'adequate'. Instead of readying yourself for the next spiritual battle, the weapons lay at your feet.

Remember the Lord’s stark warning to the church in Laodicea ... I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm - neither hot nor cold - I am about to spit you out of my mouth. (Revelations 3:15-16)

Don't be that kind of believer. Completely abandon yourself to the Lordship of Jesus Christ and reject every form of 'complacency' in your walk of faith.
