PERSPECTIVE

We live in a fallen world. Focusing on the Lordship of Jesus Christ is vital to the believer's mental well-being. The ever-increasing evil of these 'last days' can cause one to feel overwhelmed at times. We must not allow the peace of God to be usurped by fear and dread.

Having an Eternal Perspective is key.

1. When you accept by faith the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ as the payment for your sins, the heavenly Father adopts you into His 'forever' family. The Spirit himself bears witness to our spirit that we are God’s children. (Romans 8:17)

2. The Holy Spirit comes to dwell within you when you surrender your life to Christ. His work of sanctification begins and to the degree you submit to it, his divinely imparted 'eternal perspective' influences your life. The Spirit is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of God’s own. (Ephesians 1:14)

3. Investing your time, energy, and resources in representing the body of Christ ... shifts you from a 'temporal' mindset to an 'eternal' one. Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:20-21)

4. A faithful prayer life and the study of God's Word also give you an 'eternal perspective'. Spending time in His presence and plumbing the depths of Biblical truth cannot help but center your focus on an eternity with Him. Set your minds on the things that are above, not on the things that are on earth. (Colossians 3:2)

Contrary to what those who reject the Lord believe, this world is not all there is. The passing of every hour is an unrelenting countdown toward the end of this life and the beginning of the next.

The following passage exhorts us to look ahead ... For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:17-18)

An eternal perspective provides calm assurance, even though we are surrounded by an evil world of lost and dying men. This is not our home ... we are sojourners here, pilgrim.
