The Word of God speaks of a coming day from which there is no escape ...
We shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. For it is written: 'As I live, says the Lord, Every knee shall bow to Me, And every tongue shall confess to God'. So then each of us shall give account of himself to God. Romans 14:10-12
When the unsettling truth of this passage falls upon the ear of a lost soul, his hopeless condition is exposed. Depending on the hardness of his heart, the impact is either rejected completely ... resisted for a time ... or received with fear.
God often uses that fear to drive a sinner to the foot of the Cross, where he can experience mercy, grace, and forgiveness.
But even after you've put your faith in Jesus' atonement for sin and surrendered to His Lordship, troubling flashbacks of your iniquitous past can haunt you. Satan is the 'accuser of the brethren' and wants you to fear the coming judgment, robbing you of the joy of your salvation.
God promises ... There is now no condemnation at all for those who are in Christ Jesus. (Romans 8:1)
He wants you to be confident ... We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. By this, love is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment. There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love. (1 John 4:16-18)
As you mature as a Christian, you come to understand that God's love is stronger than your inherited weakness ...
For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. Romans 8:15
When you stand before God to give an account of your life ... the righteousness of His Son will be your mantle.
