The term 'boast' means to speak with excessive pride about one's life and accomplishments. According to Scripture, it is not simply 'off-putting conduct'. It is much worse ... All such boasting is evil. (James 4:16)
People typically have a deep-seated, insecure psyche when it comes to self-worth. In a desperate attempt to alleviate the pangs of inadequacy, men often attempt to secure a sense of well-being by rehearsing their perceived virtues to a willing audience.
But the 'void within' will continue until a personal relationship with Jesus Christ is established. Surrendering to His Lordship shifts the weight of our sin-laden lives onto Him. Human effort cannot relieve one's thirsty soul, but ... kneeling at the foot of Calvary's cross does.
Paul found the proper way to 'boast' ... But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Galatians 6:14)
When we finally understand that our 'worth' cannot be earned, the knowledge of God's love is shed abroad in our hearts ... For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9)
The Lord gives us this admonition ... Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. (Jeremiah 9:23-24)
Give God all the glory; not only because it protects your heart from pride, but because He rightfully deserves it.
