LONG TERM INVESTMENT

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus emphasized the importance of investing in that which is 'eternal' ... not in the 'temporal' things of this world.

Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:19–21

Christ warned that money, power, and fame have an expiration date. Spending time and energy on those things might bring temporary success and a sense of well-being, but they vie for control of that which belongs to the Lord ... a believer's heart.

It is not wrong to possess things, but it is wrong for things to possess us ... For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? (Mark 8:36)

Adam Clarke - What blindness is it for a man to lay up that as a treasure which must necessarily perish. A heart designed for God and eternity is terribly degraded by being fixed on those things which are subject to corruption.

Jesus urges Christians to think beyond their earthly pilgrimage. Our allegiance must not be divided ... No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth. (Luke 16:13)

The moment you take your last breath, this world's treasures won’t matter anymore.
