THE BROKEN WINDOW

People tend to excuse what they consider to be a small matter.

When a person commits a seemingly inconsequential sin and thinks it's just a 'minor breach' of divine Law ... he fails to understand that every immoral thought, word, or deed carries the same penalty.

For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. James 2:10

The Lord does not grade on the curve. If you think you'll be accepted into His kingdom because your behavior compares well against those who've committed more grievous sins ... you are mistaken.

MacArthur - Think of it like window glass - if you break part of it, you've destroyed the entire pane. You may have hit it only once, and that rather lightly, but the whole thing is shattered. In the same way, some sins are relatively light and some are extremely vile. But breaking even 'one of the least of these commandments' upsets the unity of God's holy law and turns the guilty person into a transgressor.

A so-called 'white lie' is not the same as murder, but they equally break the Law of God ... For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. (Matthew 5:18)

Therefore, mankind is doomed ... for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23)

How could the chasm between God and man ever be spanned? How could our 'sin-sickness' be remedied? How could we, in our undone condition ... be saved?

Enter the Gospel of Jesus Christ ... But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)

The Son of God left the splendor of heaven, took on the likeness of man, and was tempted in every way that we are - yet without sin.

The window went unbroken ...

On Calvary's cross, He bore the weight of your sin-laden life. His death, burial, and resurrection satisfied a debt you could not pay and His righteousness is applied to your account when you surrender to His Lordship.
