SURE-FOOTEDNESS

The path that leads to our eternal home has been secured by Jesus Christ, but a believer's spiritual journey is not without its challenges. Though the road is considered 'safe passage' because of the Gospel's blessed assurance, it is nevertheless strewn with rubble.

The cares of this world and temptation's lure make for rough footing. If not for God's protective oversight, one false step and down we'd go ...

To Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy ... to God our Savior, Who alone is wise, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever. Jude 1:24-25

Note the phrase ... 'keep you from stumbling'. It implies that no one is exempt from the obstacles and situations that try to cripple our walk of faith.

Spurgeon - If we were strong, sure-footed mountaineers, this would not matter so much; but in ourselves, how weak we are! In the best roads we soon falter, in the smoothest paths, we quickly stumble. These feeble knees of ours can scarcely support our tottering weight. A straw may throw us, and a pebble can wound us; we are mere children tremblingly taking our first steps in the walk of faith, our heavenly Father holds us by the arms or we should soon be down. The brightest saints on earth would fall into the lowest hell if God did not keep them from falling.

A child of God is always on dangerous ground. We need keeping; constant keeping, divine keeping. Your Father is ... He who watches over you will not allow your foot to slip. (Psalm 121:3)

Even the most devout believers tend to navigate with a somewhat 'faulty compass'. The distractions of everyday life make us less cautious of where we step spiritually. God knows this and therefore takes it upon Himself to keep us safe.

Let the sound of His praise be heard; He has preserved our lives and kept our feet from slipping. Psalm 66:8-9

How can you not love the Lord with all of your heart, with all of your soul, and with all of your mind?
