LOVING GOD

Scripture says ... Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind. (Luke10:27)

How can love be commanded if it is an 'emotion'?

We need to redefine what love is as a follower of Christ ...

When you accept the gift of salvation, the Holy Spirit comes to dwell within your heart and sanctification begins. A supernatural kind of 'love' is imparted ...

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things, there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23

Biblical love is not based on 'emotion'. In any given situation, a Christian can choose to love regardless of feelings.

Since love comes to us as a command, it follows that we have been given the means to obey. The Lord has placed His capacity to love inside of us, therefore we can love as He does ... God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him. (1 John 4:16)

Loving God should be an inherent response for those who've been saved by grace through faith ... We love because He first loved us. (John 4:19)

Remember, 'emotion' does not create love. It is a 'decision' (but the truth is ... when you choose to love God, deep-felt emotions tend to rise to the surface).

A. W. Tozer put it this way ... “Flowers and bird songs do not make spring; but when spring comes, they come with it.”

As you grow in your knowledge and understanding of who God is, your love for Him will increase.
