When you receive Jesus as Savior, an inward transformation takes place. The inherent Adamic nature that caused you to sin is stripped of its power. Walking in obedience is made possible through the Holy Spirit.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17
But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more, so that as sin reigned in death, even so, grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 5:20-21
There are those who have used this passage to justify an immoral, unrepentant lifestyle ... somehow believing that God's grace is amplified when sinful behavior goes unchecked.
Paul came against that reprobate way of thinking ... What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? (Romans 6:1-2)
A person who is comfortable in his sinful state needs to examine his claim of being a follower of Christ.
Spurgeon - An unchanged life is the mark of an unchanged heart, and an unchanged heart is a sign of an unregenerate life. If there is no change in your attitudes, your outlook, etc. ... then there is a very serious doubt as to whether you ever became a Christian at all.
Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Those who insist that grace provides a 'buffer for sin' ... have no spiritual discernment, no matter how much they argue otherwise.
When you are a Christian ... it is impossible to go unchanged.
