"Pseudo-Christianity' is widespread in today's church. Whether a so-called believer actually knows Christ as Savior can be difficult to determine.
A person's godly demeanor might come across as 'fruit of the Spirit' but in reality, it could just be admirable self-discipline. Though a man is known for studying his Bible, praying often, and faithfully attending church ... he could still be lost.
Brian Bell - There is a big difference between tradition and truth. Tradition is outward; truth is inward. Tradition has to do with ritual; truth has to do with reality. Tradition is something you keep; truth is something that keeps you.
According to Scripture, the difference between a true follower of Jesus Christ and a disingenuous 'religious' person has to do with the location of his heart ... These people draw near to Me with their mouths and honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me. (Matthew 15:8)
Alan Carr - You can't even claim to know God until you have come to Him His way. Regardless of what your heart tells you, to think you are saved when you are not is the ultimate in self-deception,
A stark warning was given by Jesus concerning this 'false faith' ... Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. (Matthew 7:22-23)
What a tragedy that people would ignorantly practice their religion and become worse for doing it. Christianity is a rational faith, a reasonable faith, but you do not get into the kingdom 'head first' ... you get there 'heart first'.
