Paul's desire for the early church was that they could somehow grasp the magnitude of Jesus' love for them, the dimensions of which are past finding out ...
That Christ may dwell in your hearts through your faith. And may you, having been rooted and grounded in love, be fully capable of comprehending with all the saints the breadth and length and height and depth of His love, and to know the love of Christ which far surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God. (Ephesians 3:17-19)
The Greek word translated 'comprehend' is more than a cognitive understanding of something. It actually means 'to take hold of and make your own'. Believers are encouraged to latch on to divine truth and define themselves by it ... to go beyond 'hearing about' to 'experiencing' the love of Christ.
His compassion set the sinner free ... For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His love for those who fear Him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us. (Psalm 103:11-12)
The 'breadth, length, height, and depth' of God's love is staggering in its scope. Human intellect cannot begin to approach it; discernment comes through the Holy Spirit. Only those who abide in Christ experience the unfathomable riches of His grace. It is a moment-by-moment treasured reality, not merely a hope of the heart ...
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38-39)
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! (1 John 3:1)
Take it in, soak it up.
