THE UNGODLY

The term 'ungodly' is used throughout Scripture to describe those who are polluted by sin and separated from God.

No one is exempt. Because of Adam's transgression, we have inherited a 'fallen nature' ... All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23)

This 'ungodliness' permeates every thought, word, and deed of man's debased condition. Thus, there exists an unbridgeable chasm between our sin-laden soul and the Lord's perfect holiness ... those who are in the flesh cannot please God. (Romans 8:8)

And the Bible warns of a soon-coming 'reckoning' ... by His Word, the present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire, kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly people. (2 Peter 3:7)

Since mankind is doomed for committing even one sinful act, there is nothing it can do to rectify the situation. Therefore, any hope of salvation must originate from a source outside ourselves. Enter the Gospel ... in due time Christ died for the ungodly(Romans 5:6)

Though we deserve nothing but the Lord's 'just' penalty for sin, He instead made a 'way' where there was 'no way' ... For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. (John 3:16-17)

The lost have the word 'ungodly' stamped on their soul because they don't possess a saving relationship with God through Jesus Christ. If this is you, come to the foot of the cross. Scripture promises that ... if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9)

You'll no longer be counted among 'the ungodly' because the righteousness of Christ is forever credited to your account.
