For those who've knelt at the foot of the cross, the term 'less is more' has a particular depth of meaning. Surrendering your life to Jesus turns everything on its head ... a self-centered 'what's in it for me' existence is replaced by a Christ-centered 'all to Him I owe' way of life.
The 'walk of faith' is characterized by a continual awareness that ... He must increase, I must decrease. (John 3:30)
'More of Jesus' ... 'less of me'.
'Less' of my self-sufficiency - 'more' of His grace ... My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness. (2 Corinthians 12:9)
'Less' of my worrying - 'more' of His peace ... The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:7)
'Less' of my striving - 'more' of His rest ... Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (Matthew 11:29)
In essence, it is a death to all 'my' expectations, plans, dreams, desires, will, goals, rights, and even my reputation. Genuine faith understands ... I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. (Galatians 2:20)
This lost and dying world scoffs at anyone who would willingly sacrifice his earthly identity and personal agenda for some unseen 'savior'. But, according to the inspired Word of God, man's eternal life hinges on it ... Jesus said, I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. (John 14:6)
'More of Him' and 'less of you' is a good thing.
