TO THE UTTERMOST

If you are a Christian, the Bible says that the Son of God intercedes when you fall ...

My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. (1 John 2:1)

As you strive to walk by faith through a world crippled by sin, know that your salvation is completely secure ...

Jesus, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood. Therefore He is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through Him, seeing that He lives forever to make intercession for them. (Hebrews 7:24-25)

Note that Christ doesn't save 'from' but 'to' the uttermost. Obviously, He sets us free from the penalty of sin but the greater point is that He saves us 'to' something ... a 'forever' salvation.

To the lost
Christ is 'able to save to the uttermost' ... no matter how defiled you are by sin and the extent of your guilt. You may believe yourself on the edge of hell's chasm, deserving to fall: But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound. (Romans 5:20)

To the believer
Christ is 'able to save to the uttermost'. Though you may feel as though you're in the lowest dungeon of life's 'castle of despair', the promise remains ... He is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. (Psalm 34:18)

Spurgeon wrote - Some preach that a man may be a child of God today, and a child of the devil tomorrow; that He may acquit a man today, and yet condemn him tomorrow; save him by grace today, and let him die in his sin tomorrow. NO ... Christ will never suffer one of his own to perish!

Jesus indeed saves to the uttermost, therefore you possess 'eternal security'.

True believers have already been 'justified' by grace through faith, are currently being 'sanctified' by His indwelling Spirit, and (one day soon) will be 'glorified' in our heavenly home.
