GUILTY OF ALL

Our tendency is to dismiss what we consider a minor transgression and yet take pride in our stand against more egregious sinful behavior.

The Bible warns against that corrupt reasoning ... for whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all(James 2:10)

The laws we follow do not make up for the ones we break. On God's scorecard, the slightest misstep earns the same failing grade as a lifetime of deliberate disobedience.

Hughes - Divine law is like a seamless garment that is ruined by the smallest of tears. If any part of a man is leprous, the whole man is judged to be a leper. God requires perfect, not partial, obedience. We are not to choose out parts of the law to keep, which suit our whim, while we neglect others.

You are guilty of all.

No service, sacrifice, or gift you offer can ever appease a holy God or satisfy His perfect justice. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is your only hope. Jesus met the demands of the law on your behalf ... For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. (Hebrews 4:15)

We are saved by faith in His atoning sacrifice, but that doesn't give us a license to sin. Don't take the grace of God for granted. Think of the law as a large window - you may hit it only once (and rather lightly) but the whole pane becomes shattered and your walk of faith is compromised.

Whoever, therefore, breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do likewise shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven. But whoever does and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:19)

Living in obedience is a sure sign of your relationship with God. Allow sanctification to take root. A continuous cycle of 'sinning and repenting' does little to further His kingdom.
