'Fighting the good fight of faith' can be spiritually exhausting. When the soul is battered and bruised by living in this evil world, we can feel so weak that staying the course becomes difficult.
We need divine readiness, temperance, and staying power ... let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,. (Hebrews 12:1)
John Piper - The message is clear ... endure, persevere, run, fight, be alert, be strengthened. Don’t stroll, don’t meander, don’t wander about aimlessly. Run as in a race with a finish line and with everything hanging on it.
Even the most devout Christian can experience times when the 'spiritual well' is running dry. The road stretches out before him and he's not sure he has what it takes to finish well.
God knew the struggle that lay ahead and sent a Comforter, Encourager, Counselor, and Advocate. The indwelling Holy Spirit is there to fill the reservoir ...
Likewise, the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. (Romans 8:26)
The key to overcoming 'spiritual emptiness' is to ... Walk in the Spirit. (Galatians 5:16)
Don't attempt to run the race in your own strength ... 'Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit', says the Lord. (Zechariah 4:6)
If you are continually discomfited, make sure your relationship with God is secure ... Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you? - unless indeed you are disqualified. (2 Corinthians 13:5)
As a true believer, you might feel that your well runs dry at times. Don't let it shake your faith. Allow the Holy Spirit to breathe new life into the journey and quicken your step.
