HONESTY

Because of mankind's fallen condition, 'honesty' is the exception, not the rule ... Everyone deceives his neighbor, and no one speaks the truth; they have taught their tongue to speak lies; they weary themselves committing iniquity. (Jeremiah 9:5)

The law of God condemns dishonesty ... You shall not testify falsely [that is, lie, withhold, or manipulate the truth] against your neighbor. (Exodus 20:16)

There are eternal consequences for disobedience to His command ... No one who practices deceit will dwell in My house; no one who speaks falsely will stand in My presence. (Psalm 101:7)

Honest people make truthful, accurate, trustworthy statements about life, self, others, and the Lord. Outside of a saving relationship with Jesus Christ, we have no hope. Redemption of the soul brings the transformation required to set things right ...

You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Therefore, each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body. (Ephesians 4:22-25)

Those who claim Christ as Savior but contradict Him, add to His words, or refuse to follow Him are considered 'dishonest' ... Whoever says, 'I know Him', but does not do what He commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. (1 John 2:4)

But remember: 'honesty' is not to be confused with 'transparency' (i.e., expressing everything that goes through your mind) ... When there are many words, wrongdoing is unavoidable, but one who restrains his lips is wise. (Proverbs 10:19)

Truthfulness is a clear sign that the Holy Spirit’s work of sanctification has taken root in your soul. That said ... it should always be accompanied by gentleness.
