In defiant rejection of the Gospel, the unrepentant sinner often claims that Christians blindly worship a cold-hearted deity that doesn't exist. Thinking he has the upper hand, he proudly legitimizes his atheism by asking, "How can your so-called 'loving God' justify sending people to hell for all eternity"?
The Bible states that claiming 'innocence' or 'ignorance' as an excuse for unbelief carries no weight ... The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display His craftsmanship. Day after day, they continue to speak; night after night, they make Him known. They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world. (Psalm 19:1-4)
Evidence of the Lord's existence is everywhere, yet sinful man refuses to acknowledge Him, choosing instead to put faith in ... imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God. (2 Corinthians 10:5)
They create an egocentric false 'reality' that calls down His judgment ... The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth. (Romans 1:18)
Creation itself condemns them ... For what may be known about God is clear to them since God has shown it to them. The invisible things about Him - His eternal power and deity - have been clearly seen since the creation of the world and are understood by the things that are made, so that they are without excuse. (Romans 1:19-20)
Repressing the knowledge of Him in order to live out hollow human ideologies is leading this current generation into an ever-darkening reprobate existence. But as long as a sinner draws breath, as long as his heart beats within his chest ... mercy and grace are available.
Heeding this warning is all it takes ... How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him? (Hebrews 2:3)
