FIRST THINGS FIRST

What a man considers most important, most urgent, or sometimes ... most coveted, usually takes priority in his daily life.

But Jesus taught that the 'temporal' must take a back seat to that which is 'eternal' ... Therefore, I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. (Matthew 6:25,33)

True contentment comes when your thoughts, motives, and desires are centered on the purposes of God ... not this fleeting existence.

Spurgeon - Let us spend life on one thing, and it will be well spent: as for the twenty secondary objects, they also will be ours if we pursue the one thing only.

Your soul is vexed when you attempt to live with one foot in the world and one in the spiritual realm ... a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. (James 1:8)

Examine your priorities.
There should be evidence that you've put the Lord first:

  1. His fellowship is more important to you than your familial relationships.
  2. His Word is more precious to you than all the wisdom of this world.
  3. His will takes precedence over the egocentric exploits common to man.

Obeying the following commandment keeps 'first things first' ... Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. (Matthew 22:37)
