The Bible reveals that there is not only 'saving faith' ... but 'abiding faith'.
The first has to do with your one-time 'justification', the second with your ongoing 'sanctification'.
Many who claim Christ as Savior fail to advance beyond that initial step, never 'putting feet to their faith'.
'Abiding faith' is 'saving faith' in action ... Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:31)
'Abiding faith' relies on God when we can't see the road ahead ... Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6)'Abiding faith' submits to God's training ... My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. (James 1:2-3)
'Abiding faith' strips away self reliance ... I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. (Galatians 2:20)
'Abiding faith' trusts God's promise ... being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ. (Philippians 1:6)
Two stages of faith:
- Saving faith acknowledges Jesus as the Lamb of God ... sacrificed on your behalf.
- Abiding faith acknowledges Jesus as Lord ... the Overseer of your journey home.
