Contrary to the labyrinth of complicated doctrines set forth by today's organized religions (all of which claim to be the true church), genuine Christianity can be defined by a simple, yet profound Biblical phrase ... But God.
These may be the two greatest words in all of Scripture, for they emphasize that glory belongs to Him alone. It strips us of thinking we play a part in our own salvation through human merit (or human effort).
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)
Grasping the 'But God' principle is vital to your walk of faith:
1. It brings hope in adversity, an assurance that God is greater than your circumstances.
2. It shifts attention away from a flawed and broken 'self' to God's goodness and unwavering love.
3. It establishes the sufficiency of Christ for every aspect of your spiritual journey.
God's 'intervention' is what allows you to experience the joy of salvation and a peace that passes understanding.
