From the hymn 'Amazing Grace', rings this poignant refrain ... 'I once was lost but now am found, was blind but now I see'.
We are born into this world with a sinful nature inherited from Adam's fall ... the condition severs our relationship with the Lord. The gulf between us and God is impossible to bridge; we can't find a way back into His presence on our own.
We are 'lost'.
But ... the wondrous plan of salvation was put in motion on our behalf.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. John 3:16-17
When we place our trust in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ as an atonement for sin, a bridge opens up before us. Because of God’s mercy and grace, we can come home.
For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. Luke 19:10
D L Moody - To me this is one of the sweetest verses in the whole Bible. In this one short sentence, we are told what Christ came into this world to do. He came with a purpose, He came to do a work. He came not to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
'Religion' represents man’s attempt to find God on his own. It sets an unattainable goal and introduces any number of man-made steps to reach it. Those who put their trust in these false teachings are lost ... but they have convinced themselves that they are not.
From the website 'Got Questions' ... Imagine a hiker who has lost his way. After hours of fruitless searching for the right path, he decides to set up camp in an unknown forest and declare that he is now home. He will no longer try to be rescued. Although he still does not know where he is, familiarity with his immediate surroundings gives him the illusion of being found. (this perfectly illustrates religion's deception)
True Christianity teaches that any attempt to 'find God' is futile. The Lord did for us what we could not do for ourselves. Jesus Christ left heaven to 'find us' and bring us home.
If you long to have a saving relationship with the Lord, you must first admit that you are lost. Agree with God that sin deserves punishment and acknowledge that the death suffered by Jesus Christ on Calvary's cross was sufficient to pay for yours.
Receive Him into your life by faith and you will no longer be that weary lost wanderer.
