Jesus Christ offers newness of life to a lost and dying world. If accepted, the believer is sustained by His indwelling Spirit. The Word of God refers to this as 'water'... a continual cleansing and rejuvenation of one's soul.
It is a 'fountain of life' ... quickening those who are dead in sin and strengthening weary Christians in their pilgrimage.
The Lord explained to the woman at the well that ... whoever drinks this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life. John 4:13-14
False teachings have corrupted the simple truths found in Scripture concerning the sufficiency of Jesus Christ ...
For, my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken Me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water. Jeremiah 2:13
The first 'evil' happens when organized religion becomes indifferent to the Lordship of Jesus Christ, grows cold in its love for Him, and disregards the Word of God ... which is to be treasured.
The second 'evil' is when so-called Christians satisfy themselves with ordinances of men, replacing the 'fountain of life' with the same self-righteous doctrines held by the Pharisees in the days of Jesus' incarnation.
But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. Matthew 15:9
The Bible exhorts us to take advantage of this life-giving water. It is freely given to those who thirst for more than 'religion for religion's sake'. It is the most satisfying personal encounter with the Lord that one can experience.
I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. Revelation 21:6
Drink it in, pilgrim ...
