WHO ARE WE?

If we have placed our faith in Jesus Christ's redemptive act and surrendered to His Lordship, the Word of God says we are identified as follows ...

You are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy. 1 Peter 2:9-10

1. 'chosen generation'
We represent the family of God, altogether distinct from this fallen world. True believers live according to the Word of God as it applies to their walk of faith. If not 'chosen' in Christ and indwelt by His Spirit, we could never be seen as set apart.

2. A 'royal priesthood'
We have been made like our Savior in regard to His 'Melchizedek-type' role as both Priest and King ... this allows us to come boldly before the 'throne of grace' with full access to the Father.

3. A 'holy nation'
We are God's possession, thus the world is no longer our home. Our nationality is under the Lord's dominion, and since He is holy ... we are holy. Christ's righteousness is applied to our account and His Spirit brings about our sanctification.

Spurgeon - These are wonderful epithets that are here heaped upon believers. May we have the grace to be able to appropriate them, and to expound them in our lives. What a high office, and, consequently, what a solemn responsibility is ours.

Because our lives are hidden in Christ, we have these divine 'identifiers'.

I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. Galatians 2:20

Who are we? ... 'CHRISTIANS'
