In the New Testament, the English word 'able' is translated from the Greek word 'dunatos' and refers to the power someone has by virtue of inherent ability and resources. It is repeatedly used to describe God's omnipotence and thus answers the question posed in Genesis 18:14 ... 'Is anything too hard for the Lord?'
When you find yourself distraught over the unrestrained evil in the world today, call to mind that your heavenly Father is in control ... that He has not forgotten His children ... that your faith in Him is not misplaced.
Allow the Holy Spirit to apply His salve of assurance to your troubled soul. Meditate on the following verses ...
I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day. 2 Timothy 1:12
Wherefore He is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by Him, seeing He ever liveth to make intercession for them. Hebrews 7:25
Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Ephesians 3:20-21
And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: 2 Corinthians 9:8
Now unto Him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Jude 1:24-25
The Lord has power over everything seen and unseen. Though He despises the evil in these 'last days', He is allowing it to take place in order for His divine will to be accomplished. Biblical prophesy is rapidly unfolding and the culmination of all things is at hand.
Know this, pilgrim ... He is not a 'part-time' God. He is always present and able to do that which He has promised you as a follower of Christ. Keep looking up.
