As redeemed sojourners in this fallen world, we face temptation from all sides. Everything we see, read, do, and hear impacts our journey. To maintain intimacy with God, we are to set aside our 'old man' ways ... and sever harmful relationships.
The righteous should choose his friends carefully, for the way of the wicked leads them astray. Proverbs 12:26
When we fellowship with those outside the faith, the risk of mimicking their language and behavior draws us away from our first love ... the Lord Jesus Christ.
Do not be deceived: 'Bad company ruins good morals'. Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? 1 Cor 15:33, 2 Cor 6:17, James 4:4
Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? 2 Corinthians 6:14
Understand that we are not simply to turn our backs on unsaved people. It is through fervent prayer and the sharing of the Gospel that many have come to the foot of the cross. But 'befriending' them in their sin compromises your testimony ...
