Some choose to wallow in victimhood instead of taking responsibility for the bad decisions they make. To justify their sinful condition and temper the guilt associated with it, 'blame shifting' is often employed.
One of the most common excuses for a 'messed-up' adult life is how one was raised as a child. People attempt to shift accountability onto their parents, but according to Scripture, 'passing the buck' is futile ...
The person who sins is the one who will die. A son will not suffer for his father’s iniquity, and a father will not suffer for his son’s iniquity; the righteous person will be judged according to his righteousness, and the wicked person according to his wickedness. (Ezekiel 18:20)
Blaming others keeps you mired in spiritual immaturity.
- When slighted, you are to forgive and move on. Harboring resentment taps into your old nature ... Be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you. (Ephesians 4:32)
- Pride is at the root of the 'blame game'. Lay down your self-righteous indignation ... He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God? (Micah 6:8)
- Repent of your 'entitlement attitude'. Sinful behavior is not a right you've earned by being a victim ... Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. (Romans 12:2)
We will soon meet the Lord face to face.
If the righteousness of Christ has not been credited to your account, you'll be held personally responsible for every sinful thought, word, and deed.
Blaming others for your disheveled life will carry no weight come judgment day.
