Many embrace a form of Christianity that allows them to accept certain Biblical truths and reject others ... a 'religious buffet' where they can pick and choose that which satisfies their self-serving appetite.
That lack of confidence in the entirety of God's Word is unacceptable in His sight ... He who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. Let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. (James 1:6-8)
'On the fence' is an oft-used idiom that describes a stiff-necked person who refuses to choose between two clear options. He tries to hedge his bets by living in both worlds.
They cannot coexist ... No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. (Matthew 6:24)
This person is considered 'unstable' ... restless and confused in his every thought, word, and deed. The only thing that can deliver him from this wayward condition is total surrender to the Lord.
He is waiting ... Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. (James 4:8)
If you find yourself trying to balance 'true saving faith' with your 'intellectual assent to what the world claims is true', it's time to get off the fence ... If it is unacceptable in your sight to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve. (Joshua 24:15)
Choose wisely.
